Homemade Baby food combination recipes for your 6 to 9 month baby

Your 6 to 9 month old would love to get new tastes and even start to chew. Find out how you can make the tiny palates a fun activity.

What foods should I introduce?

There are no hard and fast rules. Once your baby has passed the stage of pureed vegetable and fruits you can start with some interesting combinations like

  • Squash, Banana, Sweet Potato
  • Apple, Grapefruit, Mango, Banana
  • Avocado, Banana, Mango, Apple
  • Apple, Avocado, Kale, Banana

Do I have to always cook food that I give to my baby?

It partly depends on the stage of your baby’s development and partly on the type of fruit or vegetable you are using in your food combination. For some vegetable like carrot –it is best to cook as it prevents choking risk.

Tip: An alternative to cooking your baby’s food is to place it in Sassy teething feeder. The mesh prevents your baby from biting off a lump and he can go on gnawing to his heart’s content.

My baby does not like eating vegetables. What should I do?

If baby refuses to eat vegetables it can really create mealtime anxiety. Also, vegetables are a good source of required minerals and vitamins. So here are some tips that may make your baby’s meal interesting for him to taste.

Tip 1:

Instead of using water in your babies food combo, use chicken stock instead of water. It would change the taste of the food.

Tip 2:

Cheese changes the taste of food, so you may try adding a bit of cheese to the cooked vegetable

Tip 3:

Just because it is not recommended to add salt to your baby’s food, it doest not mean you can’t season it with aromatic herbs.

For example – Try adding a little ginger to cooked carrots or mashed bananas. Ginger protects the body from bacteria and also fights gas in the intestine. Try mixing a little sage with your baby’s veggies. It gives a lovely, warm flavor to the food.

My baby loves sweet taste. How can I sweeten the food without sugar?

There’s no doubt most babies are drawn towards the sweet taste. Here’s how you can naturally sweeten your baby food.

Use apple puree as a natural sweetener. You can also change the flavor by using ripe pear instead of using apple as a sweetener. Sweet potato is another natural sweetener that can satisfy a baby’s sweet craving.
